Green Point at a glance
Green Point is a posh neighbourhood northwest of Cape Town's central business area. It is a desirable residential neighbourhood for young professionals, with many new mid-rise apartments and mixed-use buildings.
Green Point is a short walk from the V&A Waterfront and the Sea Point Promenade. Somerset Road is the major artery, with restaurants, cafés, delis, shops, and nightclubs.
The Green Point Urban Park features a fitness centre, an art park, a large play area with a variety of interesting toys and games, a nursery, and a tea garden.
During the 17th and 18th centuries, the region was known as "de Waterplaats," or "the waterfront," and by the beginning of the 19th century, it was known as "de vlakte genaamdt de Groene Punt," or "the plain named Green Point."
